  • Braves' Charlie Morton: Rebounds against A's

Morton didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Oakland, allowing one hit and five walks with six K's across six scoreless innings.

During his last start, Morton was hammered for 12 hits and eight runs by the Nationals. He did a complete 180 on Sunday, yielding one hit and delivering his first scoreless start since April 27. However, it wasn't a perfect outing, as Morton tied his season high in walks and hit the strike zone on just 58 of his 97 pitches. Over 62.2 innings, Morton owns a 3.88 ERA with a 65:28 K:BB and he's scheduled for a rematch with the Nationals in Washinton on Saturday.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Perfect for save No. 15

Iglesias picked up the save Sunday against Oakland, tossing a perfect inning with no strikeouts.

Iglesias needed just nine pitches to retire Zack Gelof, Kyle McCann and Max Shuemann in order. The 34-year-old is 15-for-17 on save chances this season and has allowed one hit in his last five innings of work. Overall, Iglesias has the fourth most saves in the NL and owns a 2.42 ERA through 22.1 innings.

  • Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Bumps up to Triple-A

Atlanta promoted Waldrep from Double-A Mississippi to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Atlanta recently turned to Waldrep's Double-A rotation mate, Spencer Schwellenbach, to fill the vacancy in its big-league rotation, but the former ended up receiving a promotion of his own a few days later. He made his Gwinnett debut in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Norfolk, striking out a season-high 11 batters over six innings while allowing three runs on five hits and one walk. Prior to moving up to Gwinnett, Waldrep had overwhelmed competition at the Double-A level, pitching to a 2.92 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 48:17 K:BB in 49.1 innings. Though he doesn't possess a spot on Atlanta's 40-man roster, Waldrep could still be in line to make his big-league debut later in 2024 if he continues to find success at Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Chadwick Tromp: Sent back to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Tromp to Triple-A Gwinnett following Sunday's 3-1 win over the Athletics.

Tromp has seen limited usage as the No. 2 catcher behind Travis d'Arnaud for much of the season. He recently dropped to third on the depth chart behind Sean Murphy and d'Arnaud and hadn't played at all since Murphy was reinstated from the injured list Monday. The 29-year-old will now head back to Gwinnett to get regular playing time, with Atlanta set to announce a replacement for him on the 26-man active roster prior to Tuesday's series opener in Boston.

  • Braves' Chris Sale: Stumbles vs. Oakland

Sale allowed eight runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings against the A's on Saturday. He struck out four.

It was a rough day for Sale, who allowed six runs over his first two innings before Brent Rooker added two more with a home run in the fourth. Sale hadn't allowed more than one run in six straight starts prior to Saturday while recording eight or more strikeouts in each of his last five outings. Overall, the veteran left-hander is 8-1 on the season with a 3.06 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 82:10 K:BB across 67.2 innings. Sale will look to right the ship in his next start, currently scheduled for next week in Washington.

  • Braves' Sean Murphy: Resting Saturday

Murphy isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game against Oakland.

Murphy has gone just 2-for-13 since returning from the injured list, so he'll get a chance to regroup Saturday while Travis d'Arnaud starts behind the dish, batting sixth.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Yields run, earns save

Iglesias allowed a run in the ninth inning while picking up a save against Oakland on Friday.

Iglesias notched his 14th save of the year with a fascinating outing. He gave up a leadoff double to Zack Gelof before recording three outs on three consecutive pitches. Gelof would come in to score after two straight groundouts but Atlanta secured the 4-2 win. Iglesias has converted six straight save chances and owns a 2.53 ERA through 21.1 innings.

  • Braves' Reynaldo Lopez: Racks up eight punchouts

Lopez (3-2) yielded a run on four hits and two walks over six innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Athletics.

Lopez worked around some trouble throughout the contest and turned in one of his best starts of the year. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts with 16 whiffs, including nine with his slider. It was the first time he recorded more than five punchouts in a start since April 30. Lopez has produced six quality starts in 10 appearances, resulting in a 1.73 ERA through 57.1 frames. His next start is projected to be in Washington.

  • Braves' Ozzie Albies: Swipes fourth bag

Albies went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Nationals.

Atlanta's offense remains in a funk, managing only five hits and one run Thursday, but Albies has been one of the few consistent bright spots in the lineup of late. The second baseman's hit safely in six straight games, and since May 13 he's slashing .313/.375/.391. Albies still isn't providing much power -- he hasn't homered in 19 straight games and has only three long balls on the year -- but he has contributed four steals, 25 runs and 25 RBI through 46 contests.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Surrenders three runs in loss

Kerr (1-2) took the loss against the Nationals on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Kerr struck out three of the first four batters he faced, but things began to unravel for the 29-year-old in the top of the third after he hit Jacob Young with a pitch. The lefty would end up surrendering three runs in the frame on two hits and a walk while also plunking another batter. Kerr has allowed at least three runs in each of his first two starts, taking the loss on each occasion. He also hasn't gone more than four innings in any of his outings with Atlanta.

  • Braves' David Fletcher: Dabbling with knuckleball at Triple-A

Fletcher made his first career start as a pitcher for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, striking out six over five innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and and one walk in a 5-2 win over Norfolk.

Primarily an infielder since entering the professional ranks in 2015, Fletcher saw action in five games with Atlanta earlier this season and has been making regular starts at second base for Gwinnett since being outrighted off the 40-man roster in late April. However, the 29-year-old recently informed club officials that he had been tinkering with a knuckleball, and he impressed enough in workouts for the Gwinnett coaching staff to give him the chance to pitch in games earlier this month. Fletcher was tagged for six earned runs over six innings across his first four relief appearances for Gwinnett, but upon stepping into a starting role Wednesday, he delivered his lengthiest and best outing yet. Fletcher will likely need to turn in at least a few more quality performances on the mound for Gwinnett before Atlanta contemplates bringing him back on the big-league roster as a pitcher and utility infielder. There's also the matter of an ongoing investigation from Major League Baseball into Fletcher's involvement with the same Southern California bookmaker used by Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. According to Tisha Thompson of ESPN.com, sources familiar with the booking operation relay that Fletcher didn't place any bets on baseball, but clarity on whether Fletcher will receive any punishment related to his gambling activities won't become clear until the investigation concludes.

  • Braves' Jimmy Herget: Returns to big leagues

Atlanta recalled Herget from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

He had just been optioned Wednesday but is back a day later to take the roster spot vacated by A.J. Minter (hip), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Herget has tossed three scoreless frames with a 4:1 K:BB during his time with Atlanta this season.

  • Braves' A.J. Minter: Out with hip injury

Atlanta placed Minter on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left hip inflammation.

Minter tossed a scoreless inning in Wednesday's win over the Nationals but evidently must have injured his hip during the appearance. The left-hander will be eligible to return from the IL on June 14, although it's not yet clear whether he will be ready for activation at that time.
